IMAGINARY ISLAND PUZZLE: $225.00
More than a puzzle: a geography experience for all agesThe Imaginary Island Puzzle is a unique and exciting extension material for the Montessori geography curriculum. 84 multi- directional, non-interlocking pieces portray common land and water forms to create river systems, mountains, coastlines and land bridges. Students use as many pieces as they wish to create their own unique island or continent, from very simple to complex.
The Imaginary Island Puzzle is offset printed in full color and mounted on durable, rigid chipboard. The face is laminated for protection, and land and water form vocabulary is printed on the back of each piece. Pieces are also coded to represent four levels of difficulty for easy sorting and staged exploration.
The complete puzzle includes a small ship, symbolic fauna, grid numbers and letters, compass rose, graphing paper, and a set of Explorations Cards: these staged, self-directed activities help students practice the use of directions, scale, vocabulary and more. For each task, students are asked to build an island using one or more levels of the puzzle, then answer questions or explore a concept through an activity.
The task cards, 5-1/2"x8-1/2", are printed on hearty card stock and are coded for easy referral.
TASK CARDS only (these are included in complete puzzle set--no separate purchase necessary): $45.00
Land and Water Forms: $79.00
Geography vocabulary is learned easily with this set
This valuable set provides enriched vocabulary material for land and water forms using attractive drawings, vocabulary labels, and precise definitions. 38 land and water forms are explored, from the common (lake, island, gulf, desert, etc.) to the lesser known (bight, archipelago, butte, tributary, and more). Black-line drawings are screen-printed on a coarse-surface artist board, and are cut to a uniform size. Each picture is adhesive-backed and ready to mount on a heavier board.
The pictures are printed on one of the best art boards available for colored pencil, watercolor or pastel. Coloring is easy on the textured surface, and consistency from card to card is easily managed: we give you an extra picture to test your technique, and a colored sample to help you get started.
Labels and definitions are in Zap Chancery calligraphy type. They are provided in centered lists on adhesive-backed heavy stock for easy mounting on a heavier surface. Two sets of reduced-size labels are included for the backs of the picture and definition cards for self-checking, making this a complete package.
The complete set includes:
- 38 picture cards (adhesive, 3"x4")
- 38 label cards (adhesive, 1"x4")
- 38 definition cards (adhesive, 1"x4")
- 2 sets (38 each) reduced adhesive labels
