Artists and Their Art: $22.00

Lesson plans on the great artists and their techniques

Introduce your students to new ways of seeing and creating images as they explore the techniques of Joan Miro, Georges Seurat, Piet Mondrian, the Expressionists, Cubists and Surrealists with these lesson plans. Each lesson plan succinctly portrays the essential elements of each movement or technique, identifying what separates this style from others, and then provides a major hands-on lesson that allows your students to explore this style freely and understand the work of the artist under study.

Vocabulary, objectives, materials and references are provided to help you bring art history alive in hands-on classroom work. This is a valuable resource to any teacher trying to incorporate art into the curriculum or develop a stronger art program.

Art appreciation for every classroom

Learning to look at and appreciate a wide range of art work is an important part of any art curriculum--as important as creating art. Looking at others' art work also stimulates a child's own creative ideas. Study of a Painting comes in four (4) parts that get progressively harder as the student becomes more adept at reading and writing and more knowledgeable about art.

Part I (OBSERVE): Students observe and list what they see in the painting--a boy, some trees, colored squares, wiggly lines.
Part 2 (DESCRIBE): Students break down the objects in the painting and describe them alone and as a whole.
Part 3 (ANALYZE): Students analyze and evaluate the elements (line, shape, color) in the painting; what makes them and how they are arranged.
Part 4 (JUDGE): Students make critical judgments about the elements in the painting and finally decide whether they like the painting based on these judgments.
